Rep. Joe Pavlov votes to protect affordable energy choices
RELEASE|January 13, 2026

State Rep. Joe Pavlov recently voted to protect affordable energy choices for Michigan residents.

HB 4486 would prohibit local units of government from imposing a ban on the use of natural gas or installation of natural gas infrastructure in new construction.

“Families shouldn’t be forced into higher costs because of one-size-fits-all mandates,” said Pavlov (R–Smiths Creek). “This bill ensures people, not politicians, decide what energy sources and appliances work best for their homes and businesses.”

This legislation protects consumer choice and helps keep utility costs down at a time when families are already facing rising expenses. Natural gas is often more affordable than electric appliance alternatives and plays a critical role in keeping homes warm and energy bills manageable.

This plan is intended to combat efforts to restrict the use of natural gas and protect affordable energy choices for Michigan residents.

House Bill 4486 passed the House and now advances to the Senate for consideration.
