The Michigan House today adopted State Rep. David Martin’s House Resolution 238 recognizing February as Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month in Michigan.
Martin, R-Davison, emphasized the importance of hands-on programs that train the next generation of welders, electricians, machinists, mechanics, and other essential workers.
“Michigan runs because of people who know how to build things, fix things, and make things,” said Martin. “Career and technical education helps students find a path that fits their strengths, and it gives employers the skilled workers they need. CTE is about opportunity, hard work, and pride in doing a job the right way.”
Career and technical education programs give students the ability to earn certifications, learn industry-ready skills, and gain experience that can lead directly into good-paying careers, apprenticeships, advanced training, military service, or college.
Martin noted that CTE remains especially important for communities like those in Genesee and Oakland Counties, where skilled trades and blue-collar workers continue to be the backbone of local families, small businesses, and Michigan’s economy.
“The trades are not a backup plan, they’re a strong path forward,” said Martin. “When we invest in CTE, we invest in Michigan’s future.”
