HB 4549: Allows a motor vehicle repair facility to operate an auxiliary facility under the same registration.
Sponsor: Rep. Aragona (R)
Passage: 100-4 with Immediate Effect
Why I voted YES: This eliminates burdensome regulatory requirements for vehicle repair shops that just need an additional building for more space.

HB 4602: Would prevent the Secretary of State’s office from entering into contracts that grant exclusive control over creating test decks with predetermined results to a single vendor or entity.
Sponsor: Rep. Smit (R)
Passage: 63-41 with Immediate Effect
Why I voted YES: There should be a variety of sources for test data to ensure that all possible scenarios are addressed. If we only use a single vendor, we are potentially creating scenarios that have blind spots for errors or potential fraud.

BILL PACKAGE HBs 4598 & 4599: HB 4598 (Harris) – includes various forms of gift card fraud in the Organized Retail Crime Act. HB 4599 (Steckloff) – provides definitions to align language in the Organized Retail Crime Act with HB 4598
Sponsors: Reps. Harris (R) & Steckloff (R)
Passage: 103-1 with Immediate Effect
Why I voted YES: This helps close a hole in the Organized Retail Crime Act that fails to address gift card fraud.

HB 4755: Would amend the Consumer Protection Act to further protect consumers from deceptive online ticket sales.
Sponsor: Rep. Jenkins-Arno (R)
Passage: 103-1 with Immediate Effect
Why I voted YES: Consumers using online platforms to purchase event tickets deserve additional protections from unscrupulous ticket sellers. There are far too many instances where the price of a ticket rises substantially during the course of a transaction, due to add-ons and fees. Also, many times it is not always clear what entity is selling the ticket for the venue. A change in the law should be made to protect consumers from these unfair practices.

HB 4012: Allows for the emergency medical transportation of retired police dogs.
Sponsor: Rep. Hoadley (R)
Passage: 61-43 with Immediate Effect
Why I voted NO: Expanding the allowed uses of ambulances to retired police dogs could spread services too thin at a critical time when someone needs emergency care. In the event of an emergency, the owner of a retired police dog should assume the responsibility of transportation.

HB 4349: Would allow for a city to contract for the maintenance of a private road in certain circumstances.
Sponsor: Rep. DeBoyer (R)
Passage: 104-1 with Immediate Effect
Why I voted YES: The bill contains checks related to property owner’s notice and consent, as well as assessment district reauthorization.

HB 4750: Would amend the Foster Care and Adoption Services Act to ensure that benefits applied for on behalf of foster youths are conserved for the foster youth.
Sponsor: Rep. Schmaltz (R)
Passage: 60-45 with Immediate Effect
Why I voted YES: Benefits foster youth are entitled to should go to them, and the benefits could serve as a starting point for those aging out of the system.

“I’m disappointed the court-ordered mediation did not yield a positive result last week,” said Smit, R-Martin. “Secretary Benson continues to withhold the training materials she hands down to clerks. Chair DeBoyer and I were both clerks; we both agree that these documents need to be turned over to the Legislature so we can ensure our elections are being run effectively and in a non-partisan way.”
